Java News!

Here is the only one out of three baby's to survive the hard time the parent birds have given their offspring, even now they are plucking at it's head, I have no other breeding pairs I can foster it to, I am hoping it will make it to the point I can take it away from the parents.

I just wanted to show you this Java, see how the cheek patch has a lot of black flicks in it, I thought it was going to be a black head Java when it started to turn, I don't know why this happened because both parent birds are fine, the hen was an Agate and the Cock was a cream. I am hoping when I use this split Agate with a visual Agate later this year all the cheek patches are O. K.

Budgie News!

This week I have put an old show box in the babies flight four a few hours and as you can see bye the photo they were all over it. I am going to be putting a show box in every weekend so that they can get use to it ready for future shows.

My grey cinnamon is due to leave the nest some time this week and as you can see the mother is already producing more eggs, however I don’t know if this chick will be a cock or a hen yet because the parents are two visual cinnamons.

In one nest boxes a chick has appeared to be a clear body, I was surprised! but after a bit of thinking I realised that the cock was split clear body, because he came from a nest of which his father was split clear body which is how I got a visual but this bird will be a hen as it takes to visuals to produce a clear body cock.

I also have a nest box which contains two cinnamon light green pied and a cinnamon opline light green, it’s a bit to early to tell if the other chick is going to be a pied or a light green, I shall let you know, so far they are all looking rely good.
In my 2009 babies page the father that produced those four wonderful chicks has now got another four chicks in the nest and another two eggs hopefully to hatch out yet!

Java News!

Here is one of two baby javas just getting their adult coloration as you can see in the photo the head is very mottled and I am not to sure what the rest of the body will be just yet! it is no doubt going to be a pied of some description. The parents are a cream hen and a white cock which you can see on the November 9th 2008 page . Going on the beak size and shape I would say both javas are hens, which is good news to me because they are split white with pink eyes and I have got on order two white pink eye javas which should be with me soon, coming from I guy I supplied javas to in 2004 on Dartmoor, we met up again last year at our clubs bird show.

Some good news this week if you remember back in February this year I made a new style nest box to try out on the Javas, the first pair I tried did not do so well, the cock built a lovely nest inside the box BUT! the hen was not interested at all with the cock, so after a few weeks I took them both out and put a new pair in, again a visual agate hen with one one of my young normal split agate cocks as he is only eight months old I am keeping my fingers crossed he can fill eggs.

Here it is the first egg in the new nest box!!
I am keeping my fingers crossed there will be a few more and full as I should get some visual Agates out of this pairing, I have only ever bred one Agate, I did try all three hens late last year to try and get some more visuals but only succeeded in breeding normal split Agate cocks, it's not all bad news as I can now pair the normal split Agates to all the visual hens this year as I have three different parent combinations.

I need your help! and comments please! See my new computer image | Link |

Budgie News!

This week all of my chicks all bar one have fledged the nest, as you can see in my photos so far I think that these pied babies could be my best pied's that I have bred and my clear body is looking good for a clear body (see last weeks news). My cinnamon grey is ok but I have bred a better cinnamon grey before. Having said that breeding is still slow I have two pairs with 8 eggs each and I am sure all 8 are empty this is both their second rounds and will be their last, I will have to rethink some of my pairings.

This week my mum and me have caught all of the birds and treated them for feather mite and scaly face we do this twice a year as prevention is better than cure, we also quarantine and treat any new birds that come into the aviary. Also as the birds were out the flight we gave it a big clean, we do a weekly quick clean and a monthly big clean but this month it was far easier to do with no birds in so even the floor got a good scrub, so everywhere is clean now well maybe for about 10 mins lol.

Hi!
Sorry about the up-date this weekend, because the weather has been so nice and sunny Tom and his School friend went fishing for the day on Saturday, and I was kept indoors by the wife to do a bit of decorating :( The one egg I showed last week, she has stopped laying at three eggs.
