Here we are hard at it! you can now start to see
the shed taking shape, it's taking a bit longer than
I thought to nail on the ship lap, but we are getting
there, we only have one section to make up in the
week, but I need to buy 4 more lengths of ship
lap to finish.
Sorry for not updating at the weekend, we
where late finishing

May 4th
We have had a busy weekend putting up the shed, it's all gone together very well, as you can see from all the
photos below

This must be one of the biggest projects we have ever
made, I have always wanted to build a shed from scratch
after building this one I would do it all again. we are not
finished yet! we have the door to make next week, when
the wood yard opens, plus the windows need to be
finished, the plastic you can see is there to cover the
window openings at night, we are going to look at some
sheds tomorrow to see how they have made their opening
windows so we can copy them.

11th May

It must be the hottest day of the year so far today, I am
dripping like a water fountain, I will be glad when the shed
is insulated to take away the heat, I am never happy with
the weather LOL! anyway as you can see the door has
been made and hung now, I am struggling with the windows
I am still not sure how to tackle these, so if you know
could you send some drawings on how to make opening window frames to go inside these openings.

Here is a large photo of the project on how it is looking
so far, all the grass seed has now covered the soil, and it's
looking tidy again now | Photo |

May 17th

It’s been raining nonstop all day long! BUT! I have a big
dry shed to work in now, because of the layout of the
bird room the last three windows are going to be non opening windows this makes life a bit easier. I have had
a couple of e-mails giving me some good tips on how to
go about making the opening windows, as I am using tanalized wood to make the shed, I am finding it hard
to find the right thickness wood I need to make the windows, so I am power sawing the wood I have to
get the right size, it’s a bit more work
but It’s the only way.

Here is some of the ship lap wood I have sawn into
small square wooden batons to go around the windows;
I have also used some ship lap to make the window sill,
I had to rout out a small grove along the underside of
the sill to stop the rain water tracking back under the
sill, otherwise it would find its way into the shed

May 24th
We have now finished and glazed the three fixed windows,
also we are making a start on the three opening windows,
I will need to buy some more wood to finish these, plus the
hinges to hang them. We have got guests staying with
us over the bank holiday weekend so the shed has been
put on hold for a while!

June 14th
At last the three opening windows are finished, I only need to make a drip bar to go along the top's of
all the windows, this will stop any water getting in from the small gap where the hinges are, this will also complete
the outside of the birdroom.

Next week will see the start of insulating and lining
the internal walls, I need to work out if it is cheaper to
use sheets of plywood or like last time floor board
sheets that interlock with each other.
