My
Visit to Steve Nesbitt's Aviaries
|
Date
of visit 21st April 2003
Here we are the two Java men, Steve Nesbitt and myself. Late last year Steve
and his wife Karen travelled to Devon to pay me a visit for the first time,
it was a big day for us both because we have never met each other in the
flesh before, Steve was the guy who started me building websites, after
seeing his website www.snaviaries.co.uk
I plagued him with e-mail's on what to do, after some time phone numbers
were exchanged and we have had many telephone conversations over the last
few years, which in turn has lead to a good friendship, after Steve had
visited me we made arrangements for a return visit to see Steve see his
aviaries in Grantham. The dates coincided with a visit to Liverpool to see
our parents, this meant we where much closer to visit Steve for the day,
the whole trip was around 340 miles there and back, it would have been much
more travelling from Devon, the miles did not matter, we had such a good
day when we got there, it was lovely to see Steve and Karen at their place
and meet their children, not forgetting the Java's and aviaries. |

Here
is a photo of Steve's aviary and bird room. The bird room is not really
visible in this shot, the bird room is in the middle of all the flights
you can see, Steve has flights for each sex, so they are kept apart,
also flights for young Java's, Steve has very cleverly used all the
available space he has with out taking to much of his garden up. |

|
|
|
| Here
is Steve in the bird room, where Steve is standing is the area he
uses for preparing egg food and storing all the necessary pots and
utensils for bird keeping. In the foreground of the photo on the left
hand side is his cages he uses for breeding his Java's.Note each cage
has a bath attached at all times, also Steve likes to use fruit branches
as perches, this is a good way to exercises the Java's feet. Above
Steve's head are the main lights for the bird room, with a small night-light.
To the right hand side are some small flight cages leading to the
outside flights. |

Here
are some of the places we visited while at Grantham
|
|
|
 |
|
This
church spire dominates the skyline as you head towards Grantham; it
stands 282ft 6" tall. The church is called saint wulfram's and
was built in the first quarter of the 14th century. While we where
in the church looking around, we visited the chain library built in
the church spire, most of the books still have their chains attached. |
|
 |
|
|
|
| Still
in the grounds of the church, is the hall where Isaac Newton was educated
in 1654. On one of the window ledges in the hall is his name carved
into the woodwork to this day. |

Who
use to live here?
This little house above the shop was the birthplace of our first
woman Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Grantham has many old
buildings dotted about and is a lovely town to walk around its
very clean, tidy and welcoming.
